HP MediaSmart Server enthusiast skeeter has uncovered what looks like the latest addition to the line, the LX195. Sporting a mere 640GB, MediaSmartServer.net speculates this edition could be a single drive model, slotting in below the EX475 and EX485 with additional hard drive space added via USB. That’s all there is to know, at least until someone gets a peek at one outside the box. Details are starting to come into focus on some of the finer points of Windows Mobile 6.5’s launch later this year after February’s announcement at MWC, and if you had to boil the news down to just two words, they’d be “pretty” and “support.” As “pretty” goes, it’s been announced that Microsoft has partnered up with Design Museum London and the Council of Fashion Designers of America to offer designer themes for 6.5-based devices — colors, wallpaper, and the like — with the first designs coming from fashion dude Isaac Mizrahi. If that’s not good enough for ya, the company will be releasing a Theme Generator later this year that’ll let you customize colors of UI elements on your device, pair it up with wallpaper culled from your own photo collection, and send the batch straight to your phone. Over to the “support” front, over 25 companies will be announcing their full support for the Windows Marketplace at CTIA this week, including EA Mobile, Facebook (pictured), Gameloft, MySpace, Namco, Pandora, and Sling Media. To help improve the Marketplace’s public image, Microsoft is tweaking some policies, too: developers will now be able to issue unlimited updates to their apps free of charge, and users will have up to 24 hours to “return” apps they don’t like (very cool). Notably, Facebook’s new app will be available in April, offering direct video uploads straight to your wall if you’re into that sort of thing (you know who you are). Finally, Microsoft’s issued a clarification regarding upgrades from 6.1 to 6.5: devices that are already out in the marketplace with a minimum of 128MB of RAM and a 400MHz processor or better are theoretically capable of being upgraded — it’s all up to licensees to decide whether they want to go to the trouble of offering the upgrades to their customers. Let’s hope, shall we? That PlayStation 3 price drop rumored to be coming tomorrow? Not happening, according to Sony. In a statement given to Joystiq , SCEA public relations manager Al De Leon says, “we do not have plans for a PS3 price drop, and any rumors to that effect are false and are the result of speculation.” Although we wouldn’t put it past the company to deny it up until the second before an official announcement, we seriously doubt Sony would announce any sort of price cut on the day it’s most likely to get drowned out by fake PSP2 mockups. No word on that speculated $100 PS2 , but we wouldn’t get our hopes up here, either. We’ve got to hand it to ‘em — VIA sure knows where the weak spot is in the netbook / nettop market, and it’s doing an impressive job bringing 1080p to areas where it was once thought impossible. After trumpeting its Surfboard concept and VX855 chipset , the company is striking yet again from the Embedded Systems Conference with its P710-HD module. Said device, which works in conjunction with the EPIA-P710 Pico-ITXe board , brings full HD playback support to a mainboard that’s almost small enough to fit in your oversized cargo pocket. The expansion module includes S3 Graphics’ 4300E embedded GPU, 256MB of GDDR2 memory and support for dual DVI and HDMI outputs. Sadly, there’s no mention of a price or release date, but we’d bet NVIDIA, Intel and the rest of the gang are definitely paying attention. Dell’s putting on the neon lights for its new line of Inspiron desktops, and as usual, customization’s the key here. In addition to two body types — slim (pictured) and mini tower — there’s eight different colors to choose from: Piano Black, Pure White, True Blue, Formula Red, Tangerine Orange, Spring Green, Plum Purple and Promise Pink . That last one’s tied to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure program, which the company currently donates to for every Promise Pink laptop it sells. Processor options include Intel Celeron, Core 2 Duo, and Core 2 Quad, and AMD Sempron, Athlon X2 and Phenom X4. Other specs include six USB ports (two in front, four in back), up to 8GB RAM on select systems, integrated Intel graphics or ATI Radeon GPUs, and up to 750GB HDD for slims and 1TB for mini-towers. If you’re currently in the market for a new PC, you might want to hold off just a tad longer. These new Inspirons are due out this Spring for US and China and start at $299 for the lowest of the low-end models. Nintendo just rolled out its own pretty significant update for the Wii, so it only seems fitting that the homebrew community has now done the same, with the always prolific Waninkoko coming through with a new USB Loader that’ll let you play your “legal game backup collection” from any old USB mass storage device. While it’s apparently not ready for public consumption just yet, the video after the break does do a decent job of demonstrating that it does, in fact, work as promised. Of course, there’s always the slight chance that this is an early April Fool’s joke, but Waninkoko does have a proven track record, and it seems that most of the folks on the homebrew forums have little reason to be skeptical. The last we heard from the gang at TORC their tech was being used to snag third place in the DARPA Urban Challenge , and now Engineering TV has a couple programs highlighting some of the company’s more portable technology. Compared to other control units, WaySight is relatively small (under three pounds), and can be used to sight the robot either by selecting GPS waypoints via laser range finder in real time, or — if the GPS is unavailable — by sighting the robot and then the waypoint in relation to it. If the operator doesn’t find any of that appealing, the unit can be used to steer the robot using the unit’s built in accelerometer. The unit has a range of up to 400 meters. The AutoNav-Mini, which is installed on the robot, features a GPS unit, low level obstacle avoidance and detection sensors, laser range finder, radar, and more. This technology has all sorts of practical and legitimate uses, for sure — but none so satisfying as the fun we’d have chasing our little sister around the living room with it. Hit the read links for all sorts of crazy videos. iriver came clean with its D50N e-dictionary / MID back at CES, but it’s taken until now for the company to host up a proper teaser site with all the details (in Korean, naturally). The beautiful handheld boasts a 4.8-inch 800 x 480 resolution display, 16GB of internal storage space, 802.11b/g WiFi, support for a whole litany of files, a microSD expansion slot, full QWERTY keyboard and a battery good for up to 16 hours of music playback (or 8 hours of video). Reportedly, the price on this one is pegged at around $370, but we’re no closer to finding out when it’ll ship to the states. An uncompromising vision of a future world dominated by roving, power-up-collecting bobsled gangs, Sega ’s new Storm-G arcade game puts a “spin” on things by rotating the rider a full 360 degrees in accordance with the action. It’s not exactly the most immersive arcade experience ever produced — at some point you’d think Sega would get tired of rolling people down virtual tubes — but it does look pretty wild and stomach-wrenching. The folks at Akihabara News got to try it firsthand at Sega’s Joypolis in Odaiba Japan, and found the experience rather exhausting. Check out the video after the break.
